Alter Something

Good Morning everyone,

Today I'm sharing a box I altered for a friends 5th wedding anniversary.  His wife loves the book "The Hobbit", so he bought her the limited edition!  He asked me if I could do something to make it look pretty for her.  So, I came into my stamp lab and the wheels started turning.  I wanted to keep within the theme of Wizards, Warlocks, Magic, and all the other neat things that go on in the story.  I had to have little background about the story (I've never read the story nor have I seen the movies.  Appearantly, this is the beginning of the Lord of the Rings.   Okay, so I had this DCWV paper that I never used called "Once Upon A Time".  It was perfect for this occasion!  I used Tim Holtz Distress Stain to colour the box.  I was sweating bullet, because I had never used the stain before and wasn't sure how it would turn out.  Let me just say, it was gorgeous (if I do say so myself).  I used peel off gold stencil to trim the box.  Of course the flowers are from WOC (Wild Orchild Crafts) and Prima.  Most of the charms are from JoAnn's in the jewery section, the metal number "5" stencil is from Stamp Asylum (Plano, Tx), the ribbon is from the Crafty Scrapper (Waxahachie, Tx). I have had this ribbon in my stash for quite some time. It was so pretty, I kept thinking I don't know why I  need to buy this but something was telling me to get it.  I started gathering the things I needed to complete my project and that ribbon was exactly what I needed.   I used the DCWV cardstock mentioned above to partially cover the front, insides, and back panels.  I did some tearing and lots of inking  to make it look old and tattered.  I used Mod Podge to adhere the paper.  I used Glossy Accent to adhere all the flowers.  I stamped lines on a tag I created out of a torn piece of the DCWV cardstock and shapped it with a nest to make a journaling tag.  My BFF Lesia from Memas Crafts gave me some jute cloth a while ago and I used that to cover the book inside the box.  Because one of the main points of the book/movie revolved around a "ring" I found a really neat tricket pack at Michaels, that had something in it that really looked like a ring during those times.  I put it in a burlap sack (from Maya Road).  I used one of Tim Holtz's little potion glass bottles and filled it with flower soft (for the concoction-the love potion).   Believe it or not, it only took  me 6 (six) hours to complete the entire project.  My co-worker loves the box and I think Mrs. Co-Worker will too.   Here are some photos of the box before and after.  Oh, I also created a small box for another gift he bought for her ( a book light to clip on her book).  I used a paper mache' box I got from JoAnn's, covered it with Prima 6x6 "Romance Novel"- love, love, love this paper pack.  Stamped the lines on the journalling tag.  It is absolutely beautiful!!!!  The pearl lace is from Crafty Scrapper; Jute cord is from JoAnn's, the roses are WOC, and I inked the edges with distress ink from Tim Holtz.   I hope you enjoy the photos.  If you have any questions give me buzz (mszbeasley99@att.net). I am entering my boxes in the Fashionable Stamping Challenge #31 Alter Something. Crazy Amigo Challenge Not A Card.  Creative Craft Chalenges 2 Anything Goes. Inks and Such Challenge #24 at Jackson Digital Expressions Breast Cancer Awareness or Pink

Hi all,
Sorry for the long hiatus.  Blogger and I are having massive uploading issues.  Somedays it will upload photos without any problem and somedays (most days) NOT!  So, I will just tell you about my card that I did for the Inks and Such "Pink" challenge. This challenge is in support for Breast Cancer month and our never ending quest to find the cure.  For my card  I used Robert Jackson's  rose image. I merged the rose 3 times to make a cluster of roses. I coloured the image with Prisma Color Pencils and Mineral Spirit, I also used Copics on the leaves. I then copied the image in different ways to create the patterned paper (out of plain printer paper). I used Nesti labels 13 and the stacking technique on the outside of the card.   I used the double embossing technique to make the frame for the inside sentiment.  I made the sentiment up. The black CS is from my stash.  I stitch the design on the front of the card.  Well, thank you for stopping by.  Just as soon as Blogger and I can come to a firm understanding about this picture uploading problem; I will post more often.
Please be sure to stop over at Jackson's Digital Expressions and join this weeks Inks and Such challenge #24, Breast Cancer Awareness or Pink.  For every entry into the challenge a .25 cent donation will be given to Breast Cancer Research.  You can also join the challenge at Mema's Crafts as she is also giving a donation toward Breast Cancer Research every entry in her October challenge.

Spellbinder's Blog Hop Day One Winner!!!

OMGosh!  I was notified a while ago that I was a day one winner on the Spellbinders Blog Hop for the sneak peek of the new 2012 dies.  I was just over joyed! I just could not wait for my Spellbinders  dies to arrive.  Well folks, my gift arrived this weekend.  I got one of the best surprises I can remember in  quite sometime.  I won ALL the dies from day one! Hallelooyurrrr!  I was out doing yard work, when I saw the package.  Of course, everything came to a hault at that point.  I opened the box and could not believe my eyes.   I was so overwhelmed, I started to tear up like I won an Oscar.  After I gained my composure, I sat my goodies aside and finished my yard work. All the while thinking about the projects I wanted to try with my new dies. I was singing like the fat lady in the Opera. I think I finished the yard work in record time.   I have not had an opportunity to play with the new dies (life happens) but that is the definite plan this week (plus a 4 days weekend) .  I took a picture of the dies to show you all.  These are some beautiful dies and I know you will want to rush right out and purchase them.  For more photos and information on these and other Spellbinders products click on any of the hyperlinks.  The links will take you to the home page, be sure to check out the community tab.  There are some pretty amazing things going on at Spellbinders. Also, check out the gallery for some beautiful inspiring projects.

Closing the Games of the 30th Olympiad in London

Wow, that was the quickest 17 days that I can remember!  I can't believe the games are closed.  I didn't get to post as many Olympic projects as I had hoped.  However, I could not let the games close without posting just one more.  I coloured the "Olympic" stamp from Krista at Saturated Canary ( I named her Olympia).  And even though I did not make anything of her, I think she is just right to say good bye to the 2012 games.   I would also like to say, congratulations to ALL the athelets.  Although, everyone could not take home a medal, you are truly all winners and even better you are Olympians- the worlds best!!!   Thank you to Great Britian and well done on your 3rd hosting of the Olympic games, awesome job.   Well, I will keep this short, post my lil' Olympia and say good night to all.

Citius Altius Fortius

GO TEAM USA!

Hello my friends! I am truly excited! The  London 2012 Summer Olympic Games have begun.  We are so very proud of all the amazing athelets from all 204 countries!!  As expected the Olympians have kept us on the edge of our seats.  Last night I watched the US Women's Gymnastic Team rock the house! We have two great young ladies going for the all around.  Swimming has as usual been insanely good!  Michael, Collin, Ryan, Rebecca, and all of the other swimmers have just been a joy to watch.  Currently I am watching the 4 Man Skulls, the US is leading- good googley moo, the bodies on those dudes (okay, I'm losing focus)... Let's just move on to the card portion of the presentation, shall we?

Okay, so on to the challenge update.  Unfortunately, my very first challenge was a total flop.  But it's okay with me, no sadness.  There are many challenges out there and if you don't advertise (which I had no intention on doing) it becomes a shot in the dark as to if folk (and yes I mean "folk") will find you.   With that being said, I have decided not to do the Olympic challenge (bummer drag).  I had some really fun stuff planned but it doesn't really seem practical if no one enters.   However, that does not in any way diminish my spirit of posting my Olympic cards and crafts.

Today I am posting a card that represents my country the good ole' US of A!  And what better way to rep. my country than by posting one of the new specialty Magnolia Stamps.  This little lady is called Liberty Tilda.  I purchased her at our local craftstore the Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie, TX for anyone local.  And of course you can always go to Magnolia-licious to find the newest and many older Magnolia stamps.   I hope you enjoy the card and get inspired to doing something representing your country or any country during these Olympic Games.

Libby is still holding her tablet but she is such a talented babe, she's holding flowers as well.  You Go Libby!
