Impressive Heat Embossing

Hello Everyone, welcome back to my blog.  Today, I am sharing two little Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) that I created for my Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) class Impressive Heat Embossing.  For more information on the program click here Altenew.

I knew I was going to water colour, so I started by cutting two pieces of Strathmore Cold Press 

water colour cardstock to ATC size 3 1/2 x 2 ½”.  I applied some anti-static powder to the surface of both the little card fronts.  I used some Versa Mark ink to imprint the images on the card fronts.   On both the cards I used white embossing powder.  Then I heat set the images using my (standard) heating tool.  For the “hugs” card I used the Altenew Dearest Friend stamp set. The Dearest Friend stamp set is a 6" x 8", high quality photo-polymer, clear stamp set containing 17 stamps total.  This stamp set contains floral, greenery, greetings and sentiments. Oh yeah and don’t forget the Dearest Friend matching die for the two floral images.   I created the colouring using a moderate amount of water and Gansi Tambi water colours (yellows and oranges).  After I finished the water colouring, I helped the drying process using my Tim Holtz heating tool (this has less concentrated heat than a standard heating tool).  If you don’t have the Tim Holtz heat tool, you can leave to images to dry in room air or use your standard heating tool but, I would make sure you have quite a bit of distance between the heating tool and the image to avoid warping.  To further minimize warping, once the images where dry, I placed them both between the pages of a very heavy book and put another heavy book on top of that and left them overnight.   I cut the “hugs” twice using a small Momenta die, one in white and the other in light blue.  I wanted the hugs to really stand out from the background, so I off-set the two “hugs” and then popped them up on some foam tape. It also brings the eye directly to the embossed image.

For the Sending Love & Hugs ATC, I followed the same process as I did for the “hugs”.  This time I used Altenew’s Breezy Bouquet stamp set and the sentiment is an Altenew exclusive gift stamp set called "Best Sentiments".   The Breezy Bouquet stamp set contains 12 stamps.  You get images to create a stand-a-lone floral image, a bouquet in a vase, or a wrapped bouquet.  You also get words and phrases in a beautiful soft font. And just in case you really want to impress the recipient, you can cut out some of the images with the Breezy Bouquet matching die!  I used my Gansi Tambi water colours, in greens, browns, reds.  I stamped the greeting with Gina K’s Amalgam ink.

BONUS TAG, Tag 26

Well, I made it back for the last tag.  This is I believe the ending of Tracey McNeely’s-The 25 Days of Christmas Tags for 2019 .  A huge thank you again to Tracey McNeely for putting this event together, securing the sponsors, and maintaining the posting site and the social media access.  This is a tremendous undertaking and we cannot give you enough kudos and thanks.  Know that without a shadow of a doubt you are very much appreciated.   Thank you to the sponsors for the donated gifts and to the amazingly talented design teamers for the incredible inspiration day after day.

For my last tag, I did a smaller scale version of a super-sized tag I did a couple of year ago.  Click here to see the super-sized version.   Here’s what I used to make Tag 26: Avery Elle’s Double Stitched Rectangles, Tim Holtz Scribbles & Splats, Holiday Greens, Reindeer & 25 Set, DCWV Glitzy Glitter 6x6 cardstock stack.  The patterned papers are scraps from the original tag, so I can't tell you the manufacture.  I used Silver embossing powder, Stampin’ UP! Come to Bethlehem (retired) stamp set- I only used the sentiment, STAZ-ON Opaque-Cotton White Pigment Ink, Acetate sheet, and foam tape.  

The theme of the tag is a Winter Wonderland.

The 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2019- Day 24

1 DAY LEFT!

Yes, folks it is Day 24 of Tracey McNeely’s the25 Days of Christmas Tags.  And if you are like me, you are trying to squeeze in a tag between cooking, putting up decorations, and mapping out the plan for the after dinner Black Friday run…lol.   It is late here in Texas, but I am determined to see this hop through til’ the end!  So, let’s get going. Today’s sponsor is Heffy Doodle. This is the first time I have heard them.  Heffy Doodle is based in the UK.  I went to their site, very put-together.  They have select teams like the Instagram Team, the Video Team, the Blog Team and so on.  They also have cute stamps, stand alone dies, card kits, etc. and they will gladly ship to the U.S.

There was so much inspiration from the Heffy Doodle design team, I could hardly make up my mind.  Since it so late and I am just exhausted, I chose to go with something with quick and simple prettiness.  I took my inspiration from Lindsey, click here to see her tag. Lindsey has this abstract bubble snow falling-vertical snow drift going on(my interpretation).   Well, that was something I could do...the abstract imagine this type of tag.   I decided on the cold North Pole Winter Wind Blowing and Ice (lol). 

To make my tag, I pulled out my Tim Holtz mini stencils (Set #10, stencil # THMS032).  I used this one because it looks like the winter wind blowing.  I used Distress inks Weathered Wood and Tumbled Glass to make the background.  Once the background was done, I used some double-sided adhesive (Elizabeth Crafts) as well as Elizabeth Crafts Silk Microfine Glitter-642 Cool Diamond and covered the tag.  This is supposed to make it look like ice.  I did the little tag first, then I realized that I did not have enough tag to do what I wanted, so I made the bigger tag and made the smaller tag the companion.  You can see more of the ice and wind on the smaller tag.  Both tag bases are made with Avery Elle Double Stitched Rectangles.  The snowflake cardstock is from my stash (could not find the name).  I used Tim Holtz's Holiday Words: Thin thinlit dies to cut out the message "Let It Snow". The letters on the small tag are from the negative space letters on the large tag.  The letters on the smaller tag are suppose to resemble falling snow (oh yeah, I was going there...).  I punched a whole in the top and added some Silver elastic cord.  Well, folks I gotta get back to preparing for Thanksgiving.  We’ll chat later.    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE, I am thankful!

The 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2019- Day 17

Welcome back my friends.  I hope everyone had a pleasant day or perhaps your day is just starting, and it too will be a pleasant one.   Today is day 17 of Tracey McNeely’s 25 Days of Christmas Tags.  This train is really moving along, can you believe we are on day 17?! The 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2019- Day 12

Hello my friends, thank you so much coming back to see me.  We are on day 12 of The 25 Days of Christmas Tags hosted by Tracy McNeely. We are half-way through and I am still hanging in there posting a new tag each day!  There is still time to jump on board and just in case you are interested in doing so; you can click here for the details.  Today’s sponsor is STAMPlorations! 

My tag was inspired by Carol from the STAMPlorations design team.  Carol did two cute tags, just click on her name to check them out.  Tag 1-Stitched Snow Hills Reindeer and Tag 2 she called a Majestic Deer.  Both are really, really nice.  I especially liked the Majestic Deer.
  
My tag was made using the following supplies: Base tag is Craft cardstock cut with an Avery-Elle’s Double Stitched Rectangle Die, I used Basic Grey’s Jovial 6x6 pattern cardstock, and Hampton Arts #SC0712-Reindeer stamp and die set, The sentiment and the background are from the same stamp set.  The back ground is stamp with Versa Mark.  All edges (base tag, deer, and sentiment) are inked with Tim Holtz Walnut Stain Distress Ink, I used Gina K’s Amalgam ink to stamp the sentiment.  I completed the tag by punching a whole with my Crop-A-Dile, adding a 1/8” black eyelet, and adding some natural Jute.  Note: to make the Reindeer stand out, I cut  him out 2 times in Craft cardstock and once in the patterned cardstock and layered them together.   The sentiment is popped up on foam tape.  I love the rustic feel.  So pleased with this one!   I believe that is it for tonight.  Thanks again for stopping by.

The 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2019- Day 4

Good Day My Friends and welcome back to my blog.  It is Day 4 of Tracy McNeely’s The 25 Days of Christmas Tags hop and I am still hanging in.  The design teams are really puttin’-it-down for the hop!  There is no shortage of inspiration. This is really fun once you get a routine down.   My routine is to visit the site early in the morning check out the tags.  That gives me most of the day to think about a design.  I decide on a couple of tags and think about what I have in my craft room that I can use to make my tag.  If I have the stamp or die they used I’ll try to use that.  Most often I do not have the items they used, so then I go with whoever the sponsor was.  For example, for the first tag I did not have the background stamps used but I did recently purchase an Altenew background stamp (Pinstripe).   If I don’t have either…well that is just cause for shoppin’ in-deed!!! 

  

The sponsor today on the hop is UNIKO.  I have to say, I’ve never heard of them until this hop.  I plan to check them out.  The design team tags are crazy amazing!  They were all super good, no seriously ALL of them. It was kind of overwhelming…lol.   You know me, simple elegance, small statements speak loud; so I went with Wiebke Kommerell’s White Poinsettia. I love the white poinsettia on the kraft cardstock.  It almost looks like it is dancing across the tag…lol

I decided on a single Poinsettia as well.  My tag was made using some 110# Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock , Gina K’s Amalgam Black Ink, Copic Markers (listed below), a Recollections (Michael’s) stamp and die set “Christmas” ( I think this was a 2018 stamp set);  I did not use the die, and looped in some red and white polka-dot ribbon.  The greeting is from the same stamp and die set. I used my Tim Holtz Bigz Die to cut out the tag form.   

I used quite a few Copic Markers to color the Poinsettia.  I wanted to make it look like it was dimensional and coming off the tag, even though it is colored directly on the tag.  A couple of other things helped like: the artistry of the Poinsettia drawing.  There is a lot of detail but not too much that you get exhausted trying to figure out where a shadow would be…lol.  Another thing that helps is using the right type of cardstock for alcohol markers; especially, when you are going to lay down a lot of color.  I didn’t bother with putting in any drop shadows or trying to ground it.   I’m pretty okay with it floating in mid-air…lol…that is for you Mema.  Well my lovelies, that is it for me today (tonight).  I’ll catch up with yins again tomorrow.

I love the buffalo check with the red accent.  I used a Stampin UP! Lady Kre's Card Set Saturday Series-Christmas Cards

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to my blog.  Today, I am sharing a set of cards I did for Lady Kre’s Card Set Saturday series.  I was challenged to make 3 quick and simple cards.  I struggled a little bit with making simple cards because, I don’t normally make clean and simple cards.  It was a good exercise to remind me that sometimes you just need to keep it simple!  It also gave me an opportunity to make some much needed Christmas Cards ( I made 2 of each card).  Every year I say I’m going to make AND send out some Christmas Cards but I never seem to get there, so thanks Lady Kre!   I used a couple of MoJo Monday Sketches and one sketch I created on my own.  Other items I used to make the cards were:

2018 Christmas Tags

Hello and Happy Holidays!!!

I just love this time of the year.  I especially love seeing all the inspiring holiday cards and projects.  This is the last challenge for 2018 from Eclectic Ellapu and the theme is ANYTHING HOLIDAY FESTIVE, so let’s go out with Hyped Holiday Spirit! Goodness knows it’s been an extremely challenging year here in the states and all over the world.  This holiday season let peace and love be our driving force into a prosperous new year.   

For my project what better way to get this party started than by prettying up those holiday packages? I decided to do some frosted tags for my crafting group (shout out to the Texas Divine Diva’s).  I did a tag for each member in our group.  

I was inspired by a YouTube video from Wplus9 Design, which can be found here Messy Heat Embossing with Dawn ft Merriest Snowflakes

I used Wplus9’s basic concept but I modified the project a little by cutting out each of the sentiments 3 times and gluing them together to give them dimension.    I inked and foiled the tag and the snowflakes manually.

Galaxy Background

Hello from the Glenn,

I am back with another Electic Ellapu design team card.  November’s theme is “Anything Goes.   My DT card has a galaxy background made with Distress Oxide Inks.  I am really please at how it came out.    I used 5-6 Distress Oxide ink colours including Black Soot to make the background on Strathmore 140lbs cold press watercoloured  paper.  I think what really made it come to life is using Tim Holtz’s Distress Paint (Picket Fence) and my fan brush to make the white spots.  Once it was dry, to keep the colours from moving (if it got wet) I sealed it with some Distress Glaze.   I added some Wink of Stella Clear to some of the dots to make them glitter just a little.   Out of all the stuff I have in this craft room I could not believe that I did not have one stamp that had anything to do with space!  Well, it just so happened that our local craft store The Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie, TX was having a great sale today.   I found a Lawn Fawn stamp set called “Out of this World” that was just perfect for my card.  If you are ever in the area, it would be well worth the trip to stop by the store.   Other supplies I used for the card are 110lb White CS from Michael’s Recollection brand, Stampendous White embossing powder, Versa Mark ink pad, and Momento Tuxedo Black to stamp the sentiment .  The sentiment is from a Stampin’ UP stamp set called Bring On the Cake.  I’m not sure if it is retired but I know I’ve had it for a while.  The finished card is 4 x 5 ¼, slightly less than an American A2 card.  I think this is a great card for your little space enthusiast or even your big one…lol.

I made a matching envelope using my We R Memory Keepers envelope punch board. My card is a little less than the standard A2, so I used the measurements for a 4 x 5 1/2" card.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Tag

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!
Today, I am sharing a tag that was so much fun to make!  It's a rare event for me when I have an idea and I can keep the project in that direction (lol).   I knew I wanted the tag to look rustic and have the colours of silver, blue, and white.   I am so happy with the way the tag turned out.  My inspiration for this tag came from Frank Garcia. His Christmas tags are so pretty.  I found many versions of his tags done by other crafters; however, none in the colours I had in mind. So I was somewhat on my own with this journey.  I purchased the papers at our local craft store in Waxahachie (Crafter Scrapper).  The paper is by Bo Bunny's TIS THE SEASON collection. The sheets I used were:Tis The Season Yuletide #20501706 and Tis The Season Peace #20501702. The darker print with the large snowflakes was some paper I had in the stash.  The largest tag (base) is a pre-cut chipboard tag from Heart of Texas Studio (they come 2 in a pack).  I used 2 different Tim Holtz dies to cut the other two tags out of the patterned paper.  I added some dimension to those smaller die cut tags by cutting out some 2mm Fun Foam in the same shapes (Fun Foam purchased at JoAnn's).  I used score tape to adhere the patterned paper to he fun foam.  The silver swirls were cut using Tim Holtz's Thinlets "Scribbles & Splats" and the branches are from Tim Holtz Thinlets "Holiday Greens". The deer is a Tim Holtz Alterations Movers & Shapers-"Mini Reindeer & 25 Set". I made the bow using Tim Holtz's Alterations die "Bow-Tied".  I used a Fleur-de-Lys mini background stamp on the deer and embossed with silver/gray embossing powder.  The poinsettia was cut using Spellbinders "Layered Poinsettia" #S5-055.  The bow, the scribbles, the 25, and the poinsettia are cut out of DCWV's 12 x 12 "Glitzy" Glitter Cardstock Stack (it's the smooth glitter cardstock). I used some silver 1/2" ribbon from JoAnn's and some silver flat back adhesive backed pearls that I got from Hobby Lobby.  The little blue cluster is from Michael's holiday stems.  I made the tag by using a Spellbinder's pennant die, transparent  card stock from Michaels, Staz On Opaque, dots/spots mini back ground stamp, and a (retired) Stampin Up Greeting.  And the last thing I did was to add some silver-gray seam-binding.   I absolutely love how this tag turned out. 

Here is a close-up of the greeting.  I used the STAZ ON OPAQUE die on the transparent CS,  the dots/spots mini background stamp to make it look like it was snowing on the greeting and inked the edges to give it a frosted look.

Vintage Hot Air Balloon

Happy Fall Y'all!
My favorite seasons are starting..Fall and Winter, yea-aaah.  Harvest Time, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  No money, but I'm still excited about the seasons (lol). Sooo, let's get this show on the road. Let me start by announcing the October challenge at Eclectic Ellapu...drum roll please...one of my favorite themes...Vintage or Shabby Chic!!!  The pink team's challenge was to do something vintage, while our fab-fab purple team's challenge is Autumn.  My project inspiration came from the amaaaaazing Einat Kessler (Click on the link for all her YouTube videos). I decided to do a Hot Air Balloon!  Einat has so many great video tutorials, but the one that really got me was the Hot Air Balloon.  Her hot air balloon is a cross between vintage and Steampunk.   You can see Einat's awesome Hot Air Balloon video tutorial here.  Check out my finished project below and afterward let the Autumn breeze take you over to our October challenge at Eclectic Ellapu for more inspiring cards and projects; hope to see you there!

Gift Tags and more

Howdy folks,
    It's time for the September challenge over at Eclectic Ellapu.  The pink team's theme is anything to do with a "Gift" and the purple team's theme is "New Beginnings"...celebrate a new chapter in your life-new spouse, new baby, adoption, new job, etc.  Of course no gift is complete without a stunning tag!  Since I'm back on Tim Holtz again what better way to jazz up a tag than to use some Tim Holtz products. Tim and Ranger have some amazing products out currently.  I got a few dies, stamps, inks, and tools to add to my collection. I've been playing with some Layering Stencils, as well as some of the new and vibrant distress ink colours like "Picked Raspberry".  When I first saw this ink pad, I thought...ok that one I will not be purchasing-ever!  Ooh-wee that is a bold bright colour!  Well, I truly had to eat crow on this one. I absolutely love this colour!!!  This is just a must have ink pad and re-inker.  I also got to work with some of the Distress Paints. The Distress Sprayer- I'd been looking at it for awhile but refused to buy it because, I felt like I had enough spray bottles in my craftroom.  I really do like the Distress Sprayer and highly recommend it.  I love the way the mist-dopplets come out.  The water droplets on my tags really look distressed, vintage, and aged instead of  blobs of water. The Splatter brush-one word...AWESOME!!!  I did a little tag using the Splatter Brush, I call it my Solar Tag; you'll see why in a few.   I also did a quick tag using the Distress Sprayer that I will show.  I was on such a roll, I decided to see what kind of tutorials Tim had on his site and let me just say...I found the coolest tag!!!  I am always trying to do masculine projects but they always end up looking more girly than manly.  The tag I did even though it has butterflies, still rings dudely!!  I am sooooo pleased at how it turned out...Thanks Tim!    Well, I hope you will pop over to Eclectic Ellapu and join in the challenge, good luck!

To make the faux metal tag I used: Ten Second Studios Metal Tape Sheets (8 1/2 x 11 in), #8 Manilla Tag, Spellbinders Butterflies Two die templates, Spellbinders Damask Motifs die template, a bamboo stick from Sally's hair supplies), the bottom of a pen (to make the rivets), a few pieces of an old dictionary page, Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks-Stonewash, Ginger, and Pitch Black, a sanding block (the white rectangular block from Sally's hair supplies), a whole punch, some seam binding (black and brown), Walnut stain distress ink, and Glossy Accents...whew! (I think that's it,,,lol).    I hope you enjoy the tags and feel inspired to break out some of those Tim Holtz and Ranger products you have in your stash.

Hydrangea Jar

Hello everyone,
    Today I am posting my Eclectic Ellapu DT inspiration project for August.  The Eclectic Ellapu pink team theme is "Floral". The purple team them is "It's a Man Thing".  So you have a wide variety of creativity to explore and I can't wait to see your creations!   For my August project, I decided to decoupage a mini jar.   I chose this cute little min jar with wooden spoon I found at Hobby Lobby.   I used a couple coats of chalk paint (purchased at Michaels), I let this dry, then I baked it in the oven for a few minutes.  I used some beautiful Hydrangea napkins I got from Tuesday Morning.  I used Mod-Podge glossy to seal it and attached a Tim Holtz charm with some twine around the rim and there you have it.  A cute little multi-use jar!  You can put a small plastic liner in it and make a candy jar, great use for the little spoon, or it is great for holding paper clips and other what-nots.  Well, that's it for now.  Come back soon for more projects.  I got some goodies up my sleeve and I am excited about sharing them!  See you in the Eclectic Ellapu August challenge and good luck!
